First Girls'Hockey Topples Pomfret

The Martlets produced a very solid effort against a tenacious Pomfret squad. In the first Westminster pressured Pomfret early and had a decided shot advantage. Twice Bethany Dymarczyk ‘08 blasted shots that got through the Pomfret goalie but somehow did not find the back of the net. In the second period, Dymarczyk came up big as she scored her first goal on a
four on four situation; she took a pass from Emily Walsh ‘09 and Sara Ugalde ‘10 and blasted a shot through the screen. Seven minutes later on a power play, Dymarczyk did the same thing on another pass from Emily Walsh '09 and again through a screen. Kayla Lessard ‘08 kept the Martlets in front by making a number of key saves in this period. In the third, Sara Reid ‘08 deflected a Tori Pizzuto ‘10 shot in for her first goal of the game. This goal seemed to energize Pomfret as they started to put more pressure on the Martlets. They scored their only goal a few minutes later. Westminster then clamped down on defense and turned up the offensive pressure. Sara Ugalde '10 scored the fourth goal on a pass from Nicole Palazzo ‘08. A few minutes later, Palazzo made a wonderful pass to Reid for her second goal of the game. A good win
and now the team has a few days of needed rest before the push to the end of the season. They face Deerfield next Wednesday.
