Martlets End Bearcats' Winning Streak

Traveling to top ranked Hotchkiss, First Girls' Hockey played an impressive game and returned home with a big win.  With only three defenseman dressed due to an injury to Amanda Boulier ‘10, the girls circled the wagons and played their best game of the year. From the opening faceoff, the Martlets went out hard and fast and never let up. The first period was about speed and forechecking as Westminster carried the play for the first five minutes or so. Then
Hotchkiss started to get their legs and things got interesting. Fortunately, Kayla Lessard ‘08 was on her game and made all the stops. In the second, Hotchkiss started playing with the vigor of a team that is on a ten game winning streak and they scored to take a 1-0 lead. This seemed to energize the Black and Gold and for the next three minutes the play was end to end. Sara Reid ‘08 tied the score on a pass from Nicole Palazzo ‘08. A couple of minutes later, Hotchkiss took
their only penalty of the day, and Emily Walsh ‘09 made them pay on a pass from Sara Ugalde ‘10 and Casey Breese ‘11. In the third, though the team had worked very hard, they still had a little left and the desire to win. Bethany Dymarczyk ‘08 scored a wrist shot from the point giving the Martlets a 4-1 lead. Hotchkiss certainly was not dead yet. They started to bring their “A” game. Over the next 5 minutes, Westminster was whistled for 3 penalties and Hotchkiss scored two power play goals. With a 1:28 left things got really hot as the Bearcats put the pressure on. With 19 second to play, Sara Reid '08 chipped the puck to center ice then knocked the puck off the defenders stick, and Nicole Palazzo buried it to end the game. A great win for the Martlets, but Williston coming on Wednesday is every bit as good.
