Good Team Effort for Second Field Hockey

Westminster controlled the game from the first whistle with effective ball movement and communication.  The midfield of Halley Cruice '11, Courtney Kirsch '08, Julia Simons '09, Kate Sullivan '08, and Izzie Wragg '09 displayed great speed and composure as they continuously fed the ball to the forward line and recovered quickly to assist the defense.  However, the Martlets went into halftime with a scoreless tie.  In the second half, after peppering the Berkshire goalie with numerous shots, the offensive line was still unable to tally the first goal.  With 12 minutes remaining in the game, the Black and Gold regrouped during a timeout, and within 10 seconds of retaking the field Whitney Fitzpatrick '09 dodged a handful of defenders and scored an unassisted goal.  As the clock passed the four minute mark Fitzpatrick scored again on an assist from Simons, and then Emma Pinney '11 and Sullivan both added goals assisted by Cruice.  Tiff Liu '10 had two saves to preserve the shutout.  This was a well-played game in which the entire team worked with determination to earn the win.
