Solid win against the Gunnery

Westminster faced a very solid Gunnery club on an absolutely prefect spring day and came away with a hard fought 5-2 win at home. The Martlets won the doubles point but all three matches were tight. Adam King '07 and Peter Williams '07 eked out a win 9-7 and Andrew Moran '09 and Dukes Aspland '08 came back from and early deficit to earn a well -deserved 8-6 win at #3 doubles. After being down early, the #2 doubles team of Charlie Lent '08 and John Benoualid '08 climbed back to a 6-6 tie before the match was retired and called a draw. The Black and Gold won four out of the six singles matches, but, again, several of the matches were highly contested. Adam King played very well at the #1 position, served terrifically, and won 6-3, 6-1. Peter Williams tracked every ball down as usual in the #2 match and defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-4. Charlie Lent continued his winning ways by playing a long and difficult two sets before winning 6-4, 6-3. Dukes Aspland had the marathon match of the day, which went to three sets - Dukes eventually prevailing 6-7, 6-1, 7-5. Both #4 John Benoualid and #6 Andrew Moran lost in two sets but took another important step forward by gaining valuable experience. The Martlets are off to Salisbury on Monday.
