Lady Martlets Lose to NHM, 102-68

The Westminster Girls came out flat against a charged-up and talented team from Northfield Mount Herman, losing the meet at Northfield.  Despite the loss, there were several great swims and many near-best times.  In the 200 Medley Relay, Abby Pribble ’09 tested her new underwater blast off on the backstroke leg, swimming her fastest split ever (31.15).  Pribble also swam a personal best time in the 100 Backstroke (1:07.79).  Kelly Cheng ’08 also swam a red-hot 100 backstroke race, finishing with a best time of 1:10.39.  In the 200 Free, co-captain Liza Winship shaved over a half-second off her best time ever with a fantastic swim (2:09.02).  Other meet highlights included a come-from-behind victory for Jamie Whittendale ’07, who poured it on in the last ten yards to win the 200 IM by .05 seconds, and a 1-2 finish in the 100 Breaststroke by Whittendale and co-captain Elsie Swank ’07, both with solid swims.  The Girls’ 200 Free Relay teams of Whittendale, Kelsey Murphy ’09, Winship, and co-captain Sky Miers ’07, and Emily Cranshaw ’08, Cheng, Ruth Planitzer ’09, and Krissy Schultz ’09 finished 1st and 3rd, respectively in a close race.  Other individual performances of note included a best time by Jenn Rhee ’08 in the 50 Freestyle (33.79).  Rhee also swam an impressive fly leg in the 200 Medley Relay in her first ever attempt.  With three more dual meets to go (all home!) before the championship meets, the girls will soon begin recovering from their heavy training by reducing yardage and intensity in workouts and beginning to make preparations for the final phase of the season.
