"Westminster School seeks curious and engaged students who want to grow and learn in a challenging and supportive environment. Students who are motivated to become their best selves both in and out of the classroom, taking advantage of the myriad of opportunities Westminster has to offer."
“At Westminster, we aspire to an extraordinarily ambitious commitment to secondary education, a commitment to nurture the participation of our diverse school community across our entire program — from academics, to studios and labs, gyms, fields and rink, and service to our Hartford community partners. Westminster students are inspired by opportunities to make a difference in all their endeavors.”
"Through gritty trial and error, Westminster students grow into independent learners who are curious, critical thinkers. With the support of faculty, students gain the skills to understand the world around them and enrich their communities at school and beyond."
"The visual and performing arts program at Westminster weaves the community together and nurtures the spirit of the Westminster campus. The arts at Westminster inspire students of all levels of experience from the very beginner to the advanced artist to practice the freedom of creative self-expression. Professional teachers guide students to work through the creative process from inception to the presentation, building a lifelong respect and appreciation for the arts."
Kerry Kendall Head of Visual and Performing Arts Department
"Athletic success at Westminster is measured not only by wins and losses, but through the bonds created between teammates and coaches, individual and team improvement, and personal growth. When students learn how to be competitors and how to cooperate with one another, they are better prepared to be citizens of the global world."
“Driven by a desire to serve young people and conscious of the opportunities for private schools to support a public purpose, Westminster School’s mission statement concludes with the call ‘to commit to a life of service beyond self.’ Westminster’s Hartford Partnership programs aim to deliver on that mission while making a direct impact on people and programs in Hartford.”
Patrick Owens Executive Director, Horizons at Westminster & Hartford Partnerships
“Involvement will be the key to your success at Westminster School. Get involved with the arts, try a sport you've never played, start your own club, run for student council. You will get out of this experience exactly what you put into it. Do these things early in your life — keep seeking more opportunities for growth.”
“Support for Westminster School provides a way to remember the past, shape the present and steward the future of the school.”

Westminster Defeats Rye, Losees to Sacred Heart
Traveling down to Rye Country Day School for a double header, the First Girls knew that they were going to face some good competition in the heart of squash country. Sacred Heart had just finished playing RCDS when our girls got on court with them and we immediately had trouble handling their pace and touch. We lost at #2 (Cam Scott '06), #3 (Ali Bragg '09) and #6 (Cristina Fioramonti '06) but Robyn Nentwig '06 won the exhibition match.
Going into the second round of matches down 0-3 was daunting, but we saw some inspired play at #7 (Olivia Robinson '07) and unbelievable grit by #4 Claire Corroon '09, who won in 5 games by taking three tiebreakers. Sofi Garnett '06 (#1) played very well at #1 but was overmatched by Caroline Henry '06 from CSH and Lauren Eder '06 lost in three at #5. A tough outing for Westminster against a solid squad from Sacred Heart.
Th match against Rye Country Day School took place immediately following the defeat to Sacred Heart, but the Westminster Martlets demonstrated that they had plenty in the tank to face the Wildcats. Cam Scott '06 began putting the ball more consistently behind her opponent and respond to her short game to win in 4 at #2 and Cristina Fioramonti '06 never lost control of the match at #6. Ali Bragg '09, who was ill, lost in 4 at #3 and Robyn Nentwig '06 ended undefeated on the day with another win at #8.
The real drama, however, was saved for the second round of matches, which began some three hours after we had first arrived. Claire Corroon '09 won another tiebreaker (her fourth of the day) to win 3-0 at #4. Lauren Eder '06 fell behind 0-2 against her opponent from RCDS and then took the next three games, including a 10-8 win in the fifth, by simply refusing to let the ball drop at the end of each game.
Another tremendous display of perseverance took place in the #1 match, which Sofi Garnett '06 also won in a tiebreaker, 10-9, in the fifth. Garnett's hard shooting was matched by her very skilled opponent, Florence Bullock, but Garnett simply made more tremendous saves and, in the end, a beautiful shot off the back glass, to win. A great, competitive match for the Martlets. We look forward to our match on Wednesday against Hotchkiss when we hope to finally have a complete ladder again.
