Martlets Sweep Tigers

On a day that initially looked grey and cold, but turned sunny and warm, the Martlets took on Suffield. Beginning with doubles, the Martlets quickly won #1 and #3 doubles matches to seal the doubles point. Liam Hibbard ‘27 and Finn Hocking ‘26 played a strong match, dropping only two games (both on the #1 players strong serve) to take their match 8-2. Crosby Cutler ‘27 and Xavier Kahn ‘27 continued their strong play together, winning 8-2 at #3 doubles. Noah Maltby ‘28 and Will Henry ‘26 played a competitive match at #2 doubles. After a slow start, they dug in to level the match at 5-5. Given the Monday match and the doubles point already being won, the coaches agreed to play a breaker at 5-5, which Suffield won 11-9 in  a back and forth battle. Singles play began following that other than Jack Pickett ‘26, who had started with doubles. He got the Martlets our next point with a 6-2;6-3 win at #6 singles. Jack played steady and ran his opponent around and had a great result. Next off was Liam at #1 singles who crushed his hard hitting and big serving opponent 6-1;6-0. He played very steady and ran his opponent around in the dominating victory. Finn Hocking ‘26 sealed the victory for the Martlets with a 6-1;6-0 win at #3 singles. Will Henry ‘26 won his match quickly 6-1;6-1 despite having some close games and competitive points. After dominating the first set, Noah Maltby ‘28 played a closer second set in his 6-0;6-3 win. After a very long first set which he won 7-5, Alex Brown’s (‘27) match was called due to time and darkness. He fought back from a break down early in the set to come back and win the last 3 games before the match was called due to time. The Martlets look to continue their good run of form on Wednesday when we travel to Hotchkiss.
