Martlets and DA Play to 1-1 Tie

Playing on the road, Westminster School and Deerfield Academy skated to a hard-fought 1–1 tie Friday night in a game that had a postseason feel from start to finish.
The two teams last met in January, when the Martlets earned an overtime victory, and with both squads sitting on the playoff bubble, urgency was evident from the opening faceoff. What followed was a phenomenal prep hockey game, fast and physical, played at a high level, with both goaltenders delivering highlight-reel saves throughout the night.
Westminster opened the scoring in the first period when Tyler Beaudoin ’28 found Ryan Holmes ’28 in front. Holmes one-timed the puck past the Deerfield netminder to give the Martlets a 1–0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The second period remained tight and intense, with both teams creating chances and making plays in all three zones. Deerfield took advantage of a Martlet miscue to tie the game at 1–1, setting up a tense final stretch.
With just under 18 minutes remaining and the game deadlocked, the desperation was palpable. Both teams pressed for the go-ahead goal, but strong defensive play and outstanding goaltending kept the score even through regulation.
Overtime featured quality looks at both ends, yet neither team could find the winner.
When the final horn sounded, the 1–1 tie felt earned. In the handshake line, players from both benches acknowledged the effort and execution of their opponent, an excellent road performance by Westminster in a true playoff-caliber atmosphere.
