Martlets Fall in OT

The Martlets traveled to Loomis Chaffee School on Wednesday afternoon for a classic Founders League matchup in Windsor. The two teams had met earlier in the season with Westminster School earning the victory, setting the stage for another hard-fought rivalry game.
The Pelicans came out flying and had the Martlets on their heels early, controlling the pace and winning races in the opening minutes. Despite the slow start, Westminster opened the scoring when Timmy Donohue ’26 capitalized on a chance to give the Martlets the lead. Loomis responded later in the period, and the teams went to the first intermission tied 1–1.
The second period saw a much improved all-around effort from Westminster. The Martlets skated harder, won more puck battles, and the game began to even out. That effort paid off on the power play when Gus McGarvey ’26 buried a rebound to restore the Martlets’ lead. Loomis answered once again to tie the game, but Westminster quickly responded as Tyler Beaudoin ’28 finished a scoring chance to give the Martlets their third goal of the afternoon. Before the period came to a close, the Pelicans struck again, sending both teams into the intermission tied 3–3.
The third period delivered a high-level prep hockey battle. With about eight minutes remaining, Westminster broke through when Gavin Smith ’28 threaded a pass to Tyler Beaudoin ’28 on the weak side, and Beaudoin finished to give the Martlets a 4–3 lead. Loomis refused to go away, answering yet again to tie the game at 4 and force overtime.
In the extra session, a miscue in the corner left two Pelicans unattended in front of the net. Loomis capitalized on the rebound opportunity to secure a 5–4 overtime victory.
Despite the loss, the Martlets showed resilience after a difficult start, battling back multiple times in a Founders League contest that lived up to its rivalry billing
