Martlets Fall on the Road

The Martlets traveled north to the hills of Washington, Connecticut, on Valentine’s Day to take on the Highlanders of Frederick Gunn, and for a half, Westminster looked very much at home. The Black and Gold opened sharply, sparked by a pair of assists from Kareum Skovron-Rasheed ’29 and a three-pointer from Brody DiBeneditto ’26. The early rhythm carried Westminster to a narrow 19–18 lead at the break, the result of patient possessions and solid defensive effort. But the second half belonged to the Highlanders’ interior defense. Frederick Gunn’s size clogged the lane and made drives increasingly difficult, forcing turnovers that eventually swung the momentum. A few timely three-pointers late in the half allowed the hosts to create separation. Calvin Bixby ’28, Aidan O’Callaghan ’26, and DiBeneditto each finished with five points, while Sonny Darnowski ’28 contributed eight rebounds on the glass. On this day, though, Westminster needed more ball movement and shared offense, feeling the effects of a short, three-game week. The Martlets will look to regroup when they travel to Berkshire on Wednesday.
