Martlets Fall to Choate

Westminster hosted Choate on Friday night in a fast-paced Founders League matchup that showcased the Martlets’ compete level, effort, and resilience throughout all three periods. Despite generating sustained pressure and quality scoring chances, Westminster was unable to solve a sharp Choate goaltender, who finished the night with 33 saves.
Choate opened the scoring in the first period to take a 1–0 lead after one, weathering an energetic start from the Martlets. Westminster continued to skate with pace in the second period and broke through when Owen Burke ’26 scored off a setup from Brenden Gilooly ’26, pulling the home side even. Choate responded later in the period, however, and carried a 2–1 lead into the second intermission.
The third period began with Westminster pushing hard, and that pressure paid off as Timmy Donohue ’26 tied the game at 2–2 early in the frame, finishing a play created by George Tsatas ’26. Choate answered soon after to regain the lead at 3–2, but the Martlets refused to go away. Donohue struck again later in the period, scoring his second goal of the night to tie the game at 3–3 and inject new life into the building.
As Westminster pressed to force overtime, Choate capitalized late, scoring twice in the closing minutes to secure the 5–3 victory.
Though the final score did not reflect the effort, Westminster delivered a strong performance marked by pace, physicality, and persistence, battling shift-to-shift against a quality league opponent and continuing to show growth as Founders League play continues.
