Martlets Skate to a Tie with Griffins

The Martlets skated to a hard-fought 1-1 tie against Pomfret on Wednesday afternoon in a tightly contested road matchup. Westminster struck first midway through the opening period when junior captain Bella Zapata jump-started the offense. Zapata drove the zone with confidence and ripped a shot past the Pomfret goalie to put the Martlets on the board. Westminster carried that momentum into the intermission, holding a 1-0 lead after the first. Pomfret responded in the second period, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity to even the score. Despite strong defensive play and steady goaltending from both sides, neither team could find the go-ahead goal, and the game remained 1-1 after two. The Martlets pushed the pace in the third period and continued to generate chances in overtime, applying sustained pressure in the offensive zone. Westminster created quality looks and battled until the final whistle, but the decisive goal proved elusive as the game ended in a draw. Westminster now turns its attention to a brief break before returning to action next Wednesday, when the Martlets will host Deerfield at home.

Our Grit & Grace player of the game is junior Mya Polastry. Following the game, Mya’s teammates acknowledged the consistent effort she had today and has shown all season.
