Martlets Defeat Bears

Shortly after concluding the win against Westover, the Martlets took a short regroup before getting ready to play Berkshire. The Martlets began this match slightly slower than the previous match, but still produced very competitive matches in the first round of matches. Saleha Rahimi ‘27 faced a tough opponent at #4, falling in 3 games to put Berkshire ahead 1-0. Lucy Morton ‘26 was next off. After matching her usual pattern of dropping the first game and winning the second, Lucy dug in and dominated the final two games 11-6, 11-3 to get the Martlets our first point. Luna Yang ‘26 played 4 extremely competitive games at #6, which they split(3 of which went to 11-9 or further) to push the match to a fifth game. Luna showed the grit of the Martlets to dominate the fifth game 11-4 to put the Martlets ahead 2-1 after the first round of matches. Clara Covill ‘26 led 2-0 at #7 before her opponent performed a strong comeback, taking the final 3 games to level the match at 2-2. Wynne Prichett ‘28 split 11-8 first games in her match at #3, then increased the variety and depth of her shots to win the next two games and put the Martlets ahead. Lilly McMillen ‘27 and Clover Cooper ‘26 were the final two on the court. At #1, Clover took her first game 11-9 before quickly dropping the second 4-11. She took the third game 11-8 behind some amazing drop shots and cutting many shots off with a volley. Meanwhile, Lilly battled a strong opponent at #5 who took the match in 3 games. Left to the capable hands of Clover at #1, the match was decided as a 4-3 win for the Martlets when Clover closed out her fourth game 11-9 to seal a second team victory of the day for the Martlets. Lily Abdel-Meguid ‘26 was kind enough to play two exhibition matches to account for the 9 players Berkshire had. Although the lost both of those matches, she showed grit and dug in to make each game more competitive than the last! The Martlets will travel to Hotchkiss on Wednesday before the much awaited Long Winter Weekend.
