The Martlets traveled to Pomfret for two matches, coming away with a 7-0 win over the host Griffins, but falling to Berkshire 5-2.
The matches were a bit tighter against Pomfret than had been the case in the girls’  previous three contests, but they rose to the occasion, using their superior length to set up kill shots. Chase Hager ‘26 showed her mettle, maintaining her poise in a couple of close games to earn a sweep at #5. Emily Fonner ‘26 had to reverse the momentum in her match at #6, but held on for a 3-1 win. And Sophia Lazor ‘27 dropped her first game against Pomfret’s feisty and skillful #1 before dominating her next three.
Against the Bears, the Martlets had the advantage at the bottom of the ladder, as Fonner and Natasha Johnson ‘27 took their matches at #6 and #7, respectively, in three. The Bears were very strong through the middle of the lineup, taking #3-#5 in three. The top two matches were the most competitive. At #1, Lazor struggled with her opponent’s serve and went down in three, but when she got into longer rallies, the two played a number of entertaining points. The closest match was played by Elle Wilson ‘26 at #2. She got off to a great start, dictating the pace and controlling the rallies in her first-game win. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to maintain the precision she needed to overcome the court coverage of her seasoned opponent, falling in four, but not without making her counterpart work hard for the win.
