Martlets Defeat Pomfret

After our weekend match at Kent was canceled due to snow, the JV boys came ready to play at home against Pomfret, bringing home the first team win of the season.  4 of our 5 wins came in 3 straight games, with Alessio Suarez ‘28, Tyson Mertz ‘27, Zach Li ‘27, and Rafa Rodrigues ‘28 all playing smart, disciplined squash.  They worked to figure out their opponents’ weaknesses early on, and did a fantastic job of moving their opponents around the court.  Alessio deserves particular commendation for digging out some tough balls and showing solid improvement in both ball placement and his movement around the court.  And Elijah Woodard ‘29 had a chance to play with the JV squad today, taking his exhibition match at #8 in 3 straight games.  At the #2 position and #4 position, Sam Jiang ‘28 and Daniel Frid ‘27 each took their opponents to 5 games.  Sam battled back from a 0-2 deficit to tie it up, ultimately falling in a hard-fought 5th game, and Daniel came back from 1-2 to win in 5 games, closing out the match with the rest of the team cheering him on.  Both Sam and Daniel did a great job keeping their focus and composure throughout a long match, and we all got to watch some solid squash.  The team is excited to take the momentum from this win into the long road trip to Trinity Pawling on Saturday.

Grit & Grace Award:  Both Daniel Frid ‘27 and Sam Jiang ‘28 share the award today, for their respective 5-game battles.
