Martlets Fall to Nobles

The Martlets closed out the Flood Marr Tournament on Sunday morning against host Nobles, determined to finish strong and play to their identity. From the opening puck drop, Westminster showed excellent jump and urgency, and their game more closely resembled Friday’s disciplined, fast-paced performance than Saturday’s result.
Westminster opened the scoring in the first period thanks to a terrific individual effort from Brenden Gilooly ’26, who was one of the Martlets’ most consistent and impactful players throughout the weekend and was finally rewarded for his work. The Black and Gold controlled much of the play, sustaining extended offensive-zone pressure and generating chance after chance. The Nobles goaltender stood tall, however, turning aside 31 of 33 shots faced, many from point-blank range, to keep his team in the game.
Nobles evened the score in the second period and eventually took a 2–1 lead late in the third. Westminster continued to push, and with the goalie pulled, the Martlets were rewarded for their persistence. Owen Burke ’26 buried a rebound with just under two minutes remaining to tie the game and give the Black and Gold new life.
Unfortunately, momentum was short-lived. On the ensuing shift, Nobles reclaimed the lead off a scramble in front of the net and later added an empty-net goal to seal the result.
It was a tough loss for the Martlets—one where they played well enough to win but came up just short. The team heads into the break with valuable lessons learned and looks forward to returning in 2026.
