Martlets Shutout by Tigers

The Martlets traveled 13 miles to the northwest to take on the Suffield Tigers for the final game of the season. Having tied the Tigers earlier in the season, Westminster was poised to show how much they’ve improved as a team in their last match. While the Martlets didn’t get the result they hoped for, they did play their best game of the season, defending with toughness and intelligence, passing better than they had all year, and competing with max effort and intensity. The squad was led by Chris Chang ‘29, who made several skillful and gritty plays to keep the ball on Suffield’s side or prevent scoring opportunities. Blake Balavender ‘29 was exceptionally hardworking and energized in the midfield, and Dylan Parks ‘29 created several scoring opportunities at striker. The score held at 0-0 until the final ten minutes of the second half, when Suffield finally snuck one past Kareum Skovron-Rasheed’29 who was stellar all game in net. Westminster, of course, competed valiantly until the final whistle. The coaches and players are grateful for a memorable and enjoyable season, and we thank all the people (parents, equipment managers, groundskeepers, officials, bus drivers, and schedulers–to name a few) who made it possible.
