Martlets Defeat Suffield

Your Martlets made the short trek to Suffield on a gorgeous Wednesday afternoon to take on the Tigers. This was a game determined in large measure by the wind conditions. Suffield won the coin toss and took the wind at their back for the first half. Suffield controlled the play as moving the ball from our defense end proved to be a challenge due to the conditions. Suffield broke the scoreless game in the 19th minute and that score lasted into halftime.
In the second half with the wind at our backs we controlled the game. For the game we wound up with 7 corner kicks to their 3; we also caught them offsides 5 times while we were only offsides once. In the 11th minute of the second half Sam McGarvey ‘28 tied the game with a nice shot from far outside the penalty box. The game looked like it would end in a tie, but a last minute foul by Suffield which resulted in a red card for that player gave us one last chance to win. Although the scoreboard clock expired, the officials let us take our direct kick from outside the box. Henry Brooks ‘28 “bent it like Beckham” to deliver the W!
