Martlets Compete at Shaler Invitational

The Westminster boys’ cross-country team participated in the Shaler Invitational, a gathering of 25 different boys and girls teams across four races. The boys went into this race with little rest and with no real goals other than to compete for themselves and get stronger for our final two championship races, but performed admirably anyway. Our runners seemed to really enjoy the atmosphere of the race and were all over the course cheering on one another and being great teammates, despite it being mostly a workout for the team.
In our varsity race, Nick Lopriore ('26) continued his streak of first place finishes for Westminster in 20:25. Also, no recap would be complete without highlighting Aidan O'Callaghan ('26), who finished second for the boys for the first time this season as well as setting a personal best time of 21:13! Michael Wang ('27) was similarly impressive, trying his best to pull Westy's next group of runners to stronger races, and encouraging them to give their finest efforts while running right alongside them.
In the junior varsity race, Alessio Suarez ('28) continued his streak of personal bests, setting another record for the fifth time this season and third week in a row. Similarly, Jin Yoon ('29) had an amazing race, lowering his personal best by a whopping 1:21 and doing so with a monster sprint finish.
This week’s Grit & Grace Award goes to Jason Seo ('29) who continues to show unmatched consistency and poise in his racing, alluding that he is destined to become a cross country teammate that others will undoubtedly look up to.
