Martlets Split Tri Meet

The boys’ cross-country team may have been short-handed at Friday’s quad meet, but they showed no shortage of heart on Berkshire’s notoriously hilly and demanding 5K course. Competing during Parents’ Weekend, the Martlets battled through the tough terrain and came away with two strong wins and one hard-fought loss against fierce competition.
From the starting gun, Westminster ran with focus and determination. Michael Wang (’27) delivered the highlight of the day, surging past Berkshire’s top runner in the final 200 meters to secure victory by two seconds. His dramatic finish set the tone for the entire team.
Captain Nick Lopriore (’26) joined Michael in the top ten overall, keeping the squad’s energy high from the warm-up to the finish line. Rounding out the top seven varsity scorers were Charlie Zhang (’29), Will Larock (’26), Aidan O’Callaghan (’26), Adam Heffer (’29), and Elijah Woodard (’29). Elijah stood out for his grit, racing while sick and still shattering his personal record by 1:17 to score for varsity for the first time this season.
Several runners finished with exciting sprints to the line. Jason Seo (’29) and Ethan He (’28) both kicked hard in the final stretch to cross ahead of their competitors and boost the team’s overall performance.
This week’s Grit & Grace Award goes to Michael Wang (’27) for his gutsy, career-best race and strong leadership throughout. Faced with a challenge before the meet, he rose to it, executed his plan perfectly, and inspired his teammates with his determination.
