Martlets Fall to K-O and Williston

The boy’s cross-country squad ran in a tri-meet in the West Hartford Reservoir versus Williston and Kingswood-Oxford, arguably the top two schools in the Founder’s League. The team went into the race knowing they would have to do their best to have a chance. They unfortunately fell short to both teams, however that didn’t stop a team that saw 24 of its 27 runners toe the line, our biggest showing in years. Of those 24 runners, 23 ran season bests or personal bests, demonstrating that absolute grit that Westminster is known for.
Westminster was led by a new top Martlet, Nick Lopriore (’26) in seventh place, followed by Michael Wang (’27) in eighth overall, who unfortunately took a wrong turn on the course and dropped all the way down from third place overall as a result.  Charlie Zhang (’29) and Will Larock (’26) solidified themselves in the top four for Westminster with personal best runs in 20:20 and 20:41 respectively and seem poised to dip under the famed 20-minute barrier. Rounding out the top 7 that scored or displaced other runners were Elliot Goldberg (’28), Liam Murray (’26), and Aidan O’Callaghan (’26) sprinting to the finish in a pack together. Of note, Elliot Goldberg (’28) was running his first race ever and finished in the final scoring position, placing fifth for Westy, an unprecedented feat for someone who joined the team well into the season. Sean Tang (’28) led the way for personal best races, running 2:17 faster than his previous best.
The Grit & Grace Award goes to both Billy Wang (’28) and Anh Ngo (’28) for gutting it out and finishing their first ever 5k race.
