Martlets Fall to Kent

On a rainy Wednesday afternoon on Hovey Field, the Westminster Martlets faced off against a hard working Kent team in a hard-fought match that ended in a 2-1 loss. Kent opened the scoring just eight minutes into the first quarter, converting on an offensive corner, and added a second goal late in the second quarter after a string of corners, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Martlets came out with renewed energy to start the third, and less than a minute in, Lily O’Callaghan ‘28 sent a ball on net that Ellie Larrabee ‘27 fought hard for in front. Gigi Filippetti ‘26 came hustling in and was able to bury the rebound and put Westminster on the board! The Martlets hoped this early second half goal would swing momentum, but unfortunately that was not the case. The remainder of the game consisted of strong bursts from both teams, but ultimately neither group would add another to the scoreboard. The Martlets best opportunities of the game came during a late push in the final two minutes. The team generated strong offensive pressure and several corner opportunities, but couldn’t find the equalizer. Hannah Maltby ‘26 made a number of key saves throughout the game to keep Westminster within striking distance. Despite the result, the team fought hard until the final buzzer. Although today was not the Martlet’s day, they now shift their sights to their Friday night game under the lights! Join us at 5:30pm at Hovey field as Westminster takes on Pomfret and what will be an exciting matchup.

The Grit & Grace player of the game is senior captain Hannah Maltby! Hannah has done a great job in net all year for the Martlets and today she made some key saves to keep the group in the game!
