Martlets Fall to Choate

The Westminster Martlets opened their upcoming slate of home games with a tough loss to one of the deepest teams in the Founders League. Choate certainly came as advertised, showing their quality across the field. While overmatched, the Westy boys were determined to keep them off the scoreboard early and battled hard before conceding the first goal midway through the first half.
Just before halftime, Luka Misko ’27 and Manny Cazeau ’28 nearly brought the Martlets level with dangerous chances that could have shifted momentum heading into the break.
The second half followed a similar script, with Westminster defending with grit and determination. As the match wore on, however, Choate’s superior depth and class began to show. A few costly mistakes allowed the visitors to extend their lead and put the game out of reach.
Despite the result, it was a true “gritty” 90-minute effort from the Martlets, who showed toughness and resilience against one of the league’s top sides. With Pomfret coming to Simsbury in less than 48 hours, there’s no time to dwell on the loss. The boys must regroup quickly, sharpen up individually and collectively, and keep their season goals in sight. One quarter of the season is now complete, making the next four games absolutely crucial.
