Martlets Compete at Canterbury

The boys cross country squad showed out at the prestigious Canterbury Invitational 5k this past Saturday. With nearly 300 runners across four races competing as individuals and not teams, seven of our top Westminster boys lined up in the fastest heat—and every single one delivered a season or personal best.
Michael Wang (’27) kept his breakout season rolling, dropping a new Personal record (PR) of 19:55 to take 40th overall. Right behind him, Nick Lopriore (’26) saw his family in attendance and decided to go full-send from the gun with a fearless race strategy, finishing 43rd in 20:24. Bold move, but it paid off for him.
Our youngest racers proved the future is bright—Charlie Zhang (’29) clocked 21:11 (season best) and Eli Heffer (’29) crossed in 22:29, a personal best for him. Meanwhile, the trio of Will Larock (’26), Aidan O’Callaghan (’26), and Shangkuan Yang (’28) all set personal bests, finishing in 21:51, 21:53, and 21:58—three different race plans, nearly identical finishes.  The rest of the team will rejoin this group of seven next week at Westminster's very own invitational race, the Richard Miller Invitational 5k.
The Grit & Grace Award goes to Nick Lopriore for his fearless racing and leadership in keeping the team sharp and motivated.
