Martlets Race at Choate

The cross-country team raced in the Choate Invitational 5k race at Rosemary Hall this past Saturday. The 3.11-mile race saw twenty-one finishers for the boys, which is the most cross country finishers our Westy team has had in half a decade. Not surprisingly, the camaraderie and teamwork for Westminster showed up and showed out throughout the race.

Although it was an “unscored” meet, race times were still recorded, and effort was still on display throughout the day. There were two boys’ races, with Michael Wang (’26) leading the way with the top time of 20:20 in the veteran’s race for our school, finishing 38th overall. Following him were Nick Lopriore (’26) and Will Larock (’26) with our next top times in that race. In the following novice race (for new runners), Charlie Zhang (’29) stunned the team with a blistering 21:59 on a very difficult course, good enough for the third best time overall for Westminster.

Other top performances for Westminster included Adam Heffer (’29), Jason Seo (’29), and Elijah Woodard (’29), who all outperformed every one of their workouts and trials thus far with their performance in this race. The grit necessary to do that must have been incredible, and they should feel very proud.

GRIT & Grace Award – What will probably be a consistent addition to our Grit & Grace Award this year has to include Nick Ramsumair (’27), who ran the veteran race, but then had the wherewithal to find all of the next races and get them ready to go for their race. His leadership was on display right from the jump.
