Martlets Fall to Kent

While the boys were excited for our home opener, the results weren’t what we wanted. We were missing many (13!) players for various reasons and even had to call up five players from the 4ths Boys Soccer Team (Quad Squad) so we would have enough substitutes. The Kent School Lions opened the game and quickly established rhythm in their offensive end of the pitch. Several of the Lions displayed deft skill and sly feints that left us scrambling to recover. Henry Brooks ‘28 was a rock wall in the first half playing in goal for the Martlets. He made many saves including some beautiful diving ones. Late in the first half Kent finally broke through to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Their offensive player dribbled through our defense in the box and pushed the ball past Brooks.
The second half started slowly for the Martlets as we surrendered two quick goals in the 5th (loose ball scramble in the box) and 10th (great run by the right winger down the sideline) minutes. Much of the remainder of the game was back-and-forth as neither team was able to press advantages. Archie Downing ‘29 and Lan Dao ‘29 played well in their first call-up to the 3rds team.
Our GRIT & Grace award went to Henry Brooks ‘28 for his confident and consistent play in goal.
