Martlets Start the Season with a Win

Thirds Boys’ Soccer began the season on the road in Wallingford, CT as we took on the Wild Boars. With a large team, both in numbers and size, 3BS played hard, fast, and aggressively to open the game. While our initial pressure yielded few scoring chances and no goals, the team kept pressing forward. Stout defense led by defenders Ryan Holmes ‘28, Sebastian Pitt ‘28, and Gavin Smith ‘28 meant goalie Thomas Merrill ‘28 wasn’t tested often. As the first half progressed Arthur Lilley ‘27 fed a nice pass through the offensive box that Tyler Beaudoin ‘28 pushed past the Choate goalkeeper to take a 1-0 lead. Several minutes later Winston Caracappa ‘28 converted a pass from Sam McGarvey ‘28 to double the lead. Shortly before halftime McGarvey scored an unassisted goal.

Early in the second half CRH finally broke through to end Merrill’s clean sheet. The remainder of the game was controlled by Westminster and we finished with a 3-1 win to open the season. Our GRIT & Grace award went to Charlie Davis ‘28 for his smart, consistent play combined with limited time off the field: a stalwart on defense! On Saturday we host Kent at 3pm.
