Martlets Defeat Eaglebrook

The JV Boys Hockey team launched their 2021-22 campaign after only a day of practice against a very talented Eaglebrook team. In a back-and-forth contest that featured some inspired playmaking from both sides, the Martlets won the third period, and the game, prevailing by a final 5-4 score. Leading the scoring were Easton Masse ‘25 (1 goal, 2 assists), Nick Orenstein ‘23 (1 goal, 2 assists), and Jaden Goodsell ‘23 (2 assists). Also tallying were defensemen Jack Rockefeller ‘23, Keegan Bankoff ‘22, and Jackson Alpaugh ‘24. Alpaugh’s goal, which put the Martlets up 4-3 after falling behind 2-3, was assisted by Jack Peterson ‘25 and Jake Timone ‘26; all three were involved in a scrum in front of the Eaglebrook net with Alpaugh eventually banging the puck in. Orenstein’s goal, on a nifty behind-the-back pass from Luke Reiter ‘23 from below the goal line, was the eventual game-winner – and a real crowd pleaser off the rush. Goalie Alec Rosenbaum ‘23, with 24 saves, including some worthy of the highlight reel, anchored the team’s defensive efforts. For a team that just came together, all-in-all the coaches were pleased with the effort and are encouraged about the team’s potential this year. After a brief 24-hour respite, the Martlets will take the ice again against an always-tough Cardigan Mountain squad Saturday on Jackson Rink. Thanks to all the fans who came out to support the team – great to have hockey back on Williams Hill again!
