Martlets Shutout Loomis Chaffee

The Martlets hosted the Pelicans of Loomis Chaffee this Saturday. Another eventful day on campus full of fans and families, the Martlets channeled the energy of the day into their play. Having already played and beaten Loomis earlier on in a preseason scrimmage, the Martlets knew the level of play they needed to bring to the field. Westminster came out strong and looked early for chances on net. It was not until there were 11 minutes left on the clock in the first half that the Martlets were able to capitalize on their opportunities. After the ball hit the crossbar off of a good look from Jillian Gregorski ‘23, the ball bounced around in the Pelican’s box until it landed on Kaitlyn McQueeny’s ‘24 feet. With composure, McQueeny took a solid first touch, picked her head up, and placed the ball in the back of the net for her first Westminster career goal. For the remainder of the first half, the Martlets and the Pelicans had their own moments of dominance. In the second half, the Martlets continued to play their game and had a few additional opportunities but were unlucky. With a lot of heart and grit, the Martlets held the Pelicans to a 1-0 score until the very final whistle. Of note, goalie Elizabeth DiBlasi ‘23 continued to be reliable and strong in the net for the Martlets. With the win against Loomis, DiBlasi records her fourth shutout of the season. Westminster advances to a 5-2 record after today’s match. The team looks to build on this momentum this week in practice. The Martlets will host Hotchkiss this Wednesday, Oct. 13th, at 3:15 pm.
