Martlets Swarm Rhinos

Looking to build from the momentum generated against TP Jan. 11, the Martlets faced Taft at home Jan. 15. Home games are always a boost, and coming off a strong two days of practice, the Martlets came out firing. Attention to detail and determination were high in the early going, and Westminster swarmed Taft’s net, creating many high-quality opportunities early in the period. The Martlets outshot the Rhinos more than double in each period, and scoring opened early. Darion Benchich ‘20 and Brennan Horn ‘21 each netted a goal in the opening frame. Defensive structure was better than in previous games, and Westminster was able to keep Taft on its heels. Quinn Armstrong ‘20 netted a short-handed goal in the third, and Benchich scored his second on the power play. Ryan Pineault ‘20 would capitalize on a turnover and score to make the score 5-1. Taft was able to score on the power play, but Bennett Ostern ‘21 stopped all other shots from the Rhinos. The Martlets earned a good win. Salisbury is up next.
