Martlets Defeat Hopkins in Tournament Semi-Final Game

Callista Adorno '22 had two home runs and six RBIs to lead the Martlets to a 14-4 victory over Hopkins in the Class A New England Tournament semi-final. Mandy Busky '21, Abby Munger 20, Gabby Nemarich '20, Hailey Tullo '22 and Bethany Winters '20 had two hits apiece for Westminster. The game began with Hopkins jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead. However, in the bottom of the first inning, the Martlets had nine hits and scored eight runs. The frame was capped off with a three-run blast by Adorno. Hopkins kept the black and gold scoreless over the next three innings, but the Martlets exploded for five more runs in the fifth. Westminster played well defensively throughout the game. Fielding highlights included strong work at shortstop by Nemarich, a fine catch by Allison Kijanka '20 in left field, and four nice fielding plays by Winters at second base. Megan Cournoyer ’19 caught a strong game and Adorno pitched extremely well, allowing only six hits while striking out 10 Hopkins batters.
