Challenging Day Against Marianapolis

After winning 10 out of their last 11 games, the Martlets stumbled at home against a strong Marianapolis team. A combination of Marianapolis hits and some uncharacteristic Westminster errors led to the Knights jumping out to a 4-0 lead by the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Alayna Tawney '19 walked and Hailey Tullo '22 singled to open a two-run inning for the Black and Gold. However, Marianapolis plated four more runs in the top of the fifth and added to the score in the next two frames. Bethany Winters '20 and Mandy Busky '21 each singled to manufacture a run in the final inning, but the Martlets were unable to generate a late rally. Callista Adorno '22 and Abby Munger '20 had two hits apiece during the afternoon. Adorno struck out 11 Marianapolis batters. Looking ahead, Westminster will host Hopkins at 1:30 p.m. May 18. The Martlets’ strong overall record has earned them the No. 2 seed in the Class A Western New England Tournament.
