Lacrosse - First Girls'
March 30: Lacrosse - First Girls’ 8 vs Middlesex School 6
The Martlets of Westminster First Girls’ Lacrosse traveled to Concord, Mass. to take on the talented Middlesex squad. After a sloppy start on both ends, the teams settled in to play. Middlesex got on the board first three minutes into the game and scored again minutes later. Westminster then scored three goals of its own to take the lead, which it kept the entire game. The teams broke for half with a score of 5-3 favoring the Martlets. Despite winning the first draw of the second half, Westminster took a little bit of time to get back in its groove after halftime and Middlesex lessened its deficit to just one. Westminster remained disciplined and came up with important draw controls thanks to Sam DeLeo ‘21 and captain Blake Cote ‘19. Ellie Bailey ‘21 came up with big saves, especially late in the second half to keep the Martlets ahead and Meg Rittenhouse ‘20 was key in causing turnovers in the defensive end. Shannon Keefe ‘19, Georgia Nolan ‘20, DeLeo and Cote each tallied a goal and Ridgely Green ‘20 notched four in the back of the net. The Martlets won 8-6 and are looking forward to the rest of the season after this strong start.
Lacrosse - First Boys'
March 30: Lacrosse - First Boys’ 15 vs Middlesex School 9
The Martlets took flight to Middlesex to take on the Zebras on a fantastic spring day. First Boys’ Lacrosse quickly found itself in a tight battle with Middlesex, trading goals in a closely contested first half. Westminster entered halftime down 5-4 to the Zebras, but quickly found some energy in the second half. Jack Devlin ‘20 stepped in at the face off X and changed the flow of the game. Westminster was able to earn more possessions in the second half by battling at the face off X and by riding Middlesex relentlessly when it was trying to clear. With the extra possessions, the Martlet offense was able to get in rhythm and go on a few multi goal runs to help put the game away. Today’s game ball went to Devlin for his work at the face off X and in the defensive end of the field. Honorable Mention game balls went to Walker Stevens ‘19 and Jordie McKenna ‘19 for their roles in the offensive end of the field. Thank you to all who made the drive to Massachusetts, the Martlets will be back in Massachusetts next weekend for a battle in Deerfield with the Big Green.
