Girls Shatter Personal Records at New Englands, Finish Sixth

The 2017-18 season came to a close on March 3 with a long day of fast swimming at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. Following up on a regular season of incredible improvement and a super showing at the Founders League Championships last weekend, the girls blew away their best times during the morning preliminary session and then came back in finals and dropped even more time. In the diving event, held Feb. 28, Cecilia Raymond '20 took second place, with Jane Ogden '19 in fourth and Ally Marenco '18 finishing 10th. Alex Lin '19 was the top Martlet individual finisher in the swimming portion March 3, earning sixth place in the 200 Freestyle (2:05.29) and seventh in the 100 Free (57.63). Co-captain Liza Lennox '18 improved her time in the 200 Free by four seconds to place 11th with (2:11.25), and Simonne Ponce '21 and Sydney Schuster '21 also swam best times in that event. Annie Brewer '21 and Katherine Ashe '21 put up best times in the 200 IM, with Ashe earning 15th place, and Alex Wolf '19, co-captain Dallis Alvarez '18 and Lennox all swam best times in the 50 Free, with Wolf taking eighth place. Michelle Wu '21 added a best time in the 100 Fly and was joined by Brewer and Schuster in the 500 Free — all three swimming best times. Alvarez, Lennox, Wolf and Lin raced to a fifth-place finish in the 200 Free Relay in the evening finals, and Angelesia Ma '20 swam her lifetime best in the 100 Breaststroke to take 13th. Ashe, Lennox, Wolf and Lin rounded out the evening with an eighth place finish in the 400 Free Relay. The Martlet performance at New Englands was a bold exclamation point on a fantastic season, and the coaches congratulate Sixth Formers Alvarez, Lennox and Marenco on their inspired performance and thank them for their leadership throughout their Westminster careers!
