Fired Up Martlets Beat Lions

On a spectacular spring day the Westminster Second Boys' Lacrosse outscored a game Kent JV team 9 - 3 to insure itself a winning season. The Martlets seemed ready-to-play before the game, but it was Kent who opened the scoring and added a second goal before Westminster came alive. Will O'Donnell '13 stopped the bleeding with his first goal of the season to cut Kent's lead to one at the end of the first quarter. Westminster then exploded with four goals in the second quarter and took control of the game 5 - 2 at half, 6 - 3 at 3/4, and added 3 more goals in the 4th to secure the win. While it wasn't the Second Boys' best game of the year, the team dominated ground balls (68 - 31) and shots (39 - 18), and only a 19 save performance by the Kent goalie prevented the second Boys' from achieving its goal of 10+ goals a game. Game ball winners were Drew Poling '13 and Sam Pope '12 on the strength of their co-three point games (twin 2G 1A). Other scorers were: Alex Connal '15 (1G 1A), Preston Miller '13 (1G 1A), O'Donnell (1G), Gavin Durham '13 (1G), Keegan Girodano '15 (1G) and double-assisters, Ryan Seymour '14 and Eli Zempsky '15 (twin 2A). Red Hots and 3 Claps winners were Riley Bitterli '14, goalies Christian Coquoz '12 and Patrick Holowesko '12, Connal, Miller, and O'Donnell. The Second Boys next game is its final game; however, the final game is not until 5/23 and the Martlets are looking forward to the six practices they have left to improve its intensity, execution, and team and reaching its potential this spring.
