Rhinos Get Away From Martlets In Final Game

The Westminster Thirds' squad was unable to put the finishing touches on an otherwise successful season as they fell 5-3 at the hands of Taft.  Taft scored first, but Westminster countered less than a minute later as Tucker Brumley '11 tipped home a shot from Tim Welles '11.  Robbie Hamblett '11, the Black and Gold's leading scorer, got into the act with 3 minutes left in the first, when he took a feed from Sam Pope '12 and ripped a shot over the blocker of the Taft netminder.  The second period belonged to Taft as they rattled off three goals, two coming in the last two minutes of the period.  Not willing to go quietly, the footless birds scored with 51 seconds left in the period as Hamblett netted his second of the game.  The comeback was not to be, as Taft pulled away three minutes into the third and would hold the two goal lead for the remainder of the game. For the second season in a row the Martlets finished with a 9-3 record.  Special end of the season recognition goes to John Bashaw '10, Miguel Osio '09 and Alex Alario '12.  Osio also ends the season with the honor of being named captain of the squad, having provided leadership for the young birds over the course of a successful season.
