Martlet Offense Overwhelms Bearcats

Since the first game of the season, Westminster has struggled to find its offensive stride. In the first period against Hotchkiss, they clearly found it as the footless birds took off with a 6-0 leas.  Casey Bitterli ’11 (1g, 1a) put the Black and Gold on the board 42 seconds into the game when he received a pass off the boards from Tim Welles ’11 (2a) and buried a slap shot from just inside the blue line. Tucker Brumley ’12 was the next to find the net as he put back the rebound from Cory Latour’s ’12 shot (2a).  The next five minutes and three goals belonged to Robbie Hamblet ’11 (3g) as he exploded onto the scene with a goal in each shift.  Mitch Bessey ’11 (2g) closed out the first frame the way it began, with a shot from the point finding the back of the Bearcat net.  In the second period Bessey found the net again, followed by Paul Byeon ‘11 scoring his first career goal.  Hotchkiss would counter with physical play and a late offensive push, but the Martlet defense, led by netminder Alex Alario ‘12, were up to the challenge. Westminster improves to 2-2 on the season and will look to continue its winning ways against the Simsbury JV team this Thursday, followed by Choate on Saturday.
