Despite The Weather Martlets Play Well

Westminster played a great game against K-O today.  The field was wet, the air was cold, but the First Girls' Lacrosse team did not allow that to get in their way.  Pulling themselves together after a tough lost to Suffield on Wednesday, the Martlets put together a great team effort right off the first draw. Alie Philip '09 set the tone for the game with the first draw control.  Philip, Emma Beck '08 and Sara Reid '08 worked in concert to provide strong, aggressive defense.  Ashley Jeffress '09 was a force all over the field and her energy and skilled play helped Westminster to maintain control of the ball for the majority of the first half.  Emily Walsh '09 and Liz Cole '09 controlled the midfield and provided strong leadership on offense.  Gaby Christman '11 stepped up nicely on the draws and showed both composure and grit on offense.  Margaret Miller '10 was a calming force in the settled offense provided strong defense as K-O worked to move the ball out of their defensive end. Leigh Anne Baldwin '11 and Bridget Eklund '11 both provided explosive defense and invaluable help on groundballs.  Caroline Moran '09, Helen Rogers '08, Caroline Scott '09 started off the game with strong passing in the eight and Westminster was up 9-1 by the half.  Caitlin Hodson '08 and Charlotte O'Herron '10 helped to further boost the dynamic offense and Mallory Mason '11 on strong in the midfield and sealed the final score at 14-5 with her last goal score with ten seconds left in the game.  Margaret Berry '11 and Kristen Maxwell '10 provided the team with strong goal tending to back up a great team effort all over the field.
