Martlets Score Early And Hold On To Win

Second Boys' Hockey traveled to the hills of Sheffield, MA and came home with a hard fought 2-1 win. The Martlets got all their goals in the first five minutes of this contest. Nick Crosby '10 opened the scoring by banging in a loose puck right on the door step after linemates Hunter Spannaus '09 and Kirby Zdrill '09 did some effective cycling behind the Bears net to set up the play. Two minutes later, Phil Sandler '10 increased the visitor's lead to 2-0 following relentless forechecking and some good passing by Tim Gray '11 and Sam Stanton '10. At the end of the first period, Berkshire cut the Martlet lead to one while capitalizing on a power play chance with a low, hard shot from the point. The final two periods saw a Westminster penalty shot and several great chances to put the game out of reach, but nothing would find the back of the Bear net. Matt Betten '10 made 16 saves in the Martlet cage helping the Black ad Gold secure their tenth win of the season (victorious in the last five). The team closes their 2007-2008 season by traveling to AOF on Wednesday and hosting Deerfield at home on Saturday.
