Patience Pays Dividends

Second Boys' Hockey traveled to Williston and earned a 3-1 victory. Westminster opened the scoring in the first period when Charlie McGwire '08 scored with assists from Joe Putko '08 and Davie Hovey '09. Williston tied the game late in the first period. Despite heavy pressure on the Williston keeper and a goal that was disallowed , Westminster and Williston entered the third period still deadlocked at 1-1. Defenseman, Drew Vermeer '10, broke the tie midway through the third period (assists from Sam Stanton '10 and Tim Gray '11). Gray added an ENG with one second on the clock to secure the win. The Williston goaltender was the difference in this game making 46 saves on the afternoon. Matt Betten '10, although rarely tested, made a couple of key saves especially in the second period for Westminster. Williston's pesky play and fine goaltending certainly gave the Martlets a scare on this day. Fortunately, the Black and Gold stayed positive and patient when the team could have easily gotten frustrated given their big territorial advantage. The Seconds really shut Williston's offense down in the third period allowing only three shots to take the win. A good Kent team travels to Simsbury on Saturday.
