Second Boys' Hockey Comes Out Rusty

Second Boys' Hockey looked like they had had only one practice in three weeks as they lost to Trinity-Pawling 2-5 at home.  There were moments of solid play, but overall the team didn't maintain a consistent flow and had a few breakdowns in the defensive end which resulted in costly goals against. Westminster took the lead halfway through the first period when Andrew Pappas '10 poked in a Matt Mahany '10 rebound. Despite out-shooting T-P (12-6) during the first period, the score was tied at 1-1. In the second period, T-P capitalized on two ill advised Martlet passes, both resulting in breakaways and goals. The Martlets ended the period with a powerplay goal by Brian Smith '08, assisted by Tim Gray '11 and Carson Christman '08. Unfortunately, this 2-3 deficit was the closest the Black and Gold skaters could get. During the third period, Westminster saw two shots from the points find there way into the back of their net. T-P deserved this win -- they were a bit sharper and more focused than the home squad. Hopefully, with some quality practices ahead, this promising team will have a great effort against Taft at home on Wednesday.
