First Girls' Hockey Suffers First Loss

Two very good teams played at Taft on this afternoon. The first period was highlighted by fantastic play by Kayla Lessard ‘08 who turned away 18 shots. Nicole Fox ‘10 had a great opportunity when she wristed a shot off the crossbar. Ultimately the period ended with neither team able to score. In the second, the Martlets started slowly as Taft came out and scored two goals. It took an amazing effort by Emily Walsh ‘09 and Nicole Palazzo ‘08 to get within a goal. Palazzo put in a rebound on a breakaway by Walsh. In the third, Westminster started well and had some opportunities. It seemed like the game was tied but it turned out that the puck went through the net and it was disallowed. Two minutes later, Westminster tied for sure as Tori Pizzuto ‘10 blasted a slapshot through the five hole. The game was very even for the next five minutes or so, then a Taft player took a slapshot that bounced off of the shoulder of a Taft player and found the back of the net. This goal really put the Martlets on their heels. Taft added an insurance goal about 2 minutes later. Next up, Westminster is away at Choate.
