Good Win for First Girls' Hockey

Westminster hosted Kent in a classic prep school girls hockey game. The pace was very fast, and the play was up and down the ice. The Martlets opened the scoring with a rebound off a Sara Reid  ‘08 shot that Nicole Palazzo ‘08 banged home. Kent, however, would not be denied and did not quit. Two minutes later they tied the score. In the second period, the Black and Gold had more opportunities but could not figure out the Kent goalie. Emily Walsh '09 and Sara Ugalde '10 both had chances in this physical contest. Near the end of the period Kent took four penalties in a row. The most devastating was a hit from behind that caused an ejection. Westminster scored on a 4-4 that ensued, as Nicole Fox ‘10 blasted a slapshot past the Kent netminder on a pass from Palazzo. Kent did a great job off killing of a full 5 on 3 to start the third, but could never generate enough offense to tie the game. In the closing seconds Walsh grabbed a Ugalde pass and scored on the empty net to ice the win. Next up for the Martlets is the always strong Loomis.
