Martlets Fall on the Road

The Martlets took to the road for a classic showdown with Deerfield Academy.  Despite great energy and a strong start, in the end Westminster dropped a hard fought physical battle to the home team. Delia Lockwood ‘26 and Kaitlyn Buda ‘27 got the Martlets going with strong inside scoring in the first quarter as both teams traded runs in an evenly contested frame. The Doors nudged ahead in the second quarter but the Martlets were tenacious on defense led by blocked shots from Charlotte Evanko ‘29, rebounding by Chloe Donovan '29 and constant ball pressure from Gianna Monaco ‘27 and Parker Perillo ‘26. Westminster came out in the second half ready to soar, but the rims were unkind to the birds with several shots just rolling out and DA picked up a few buckets in transition. Despite a nice run to start the fourth quarter and a big corner three from Charlotte Tyler ‘27 the deficit proved to be too much for the Birds to overcome. The chain for the game went to Delia for her relentless pursuit of both the offensive and defensive glass. Delia’s hard work inside resulted in five trips to the free throw line and countless dives onto the hardwood. They Martlets look to bounce back on Friday night as we send our seniors off against cross-town rivals Kingswood Oxford.
