Martlets Drop Match to Pelicans

As can be the case in squash, today’s 1-6 loss to Loomis doesn’t reflect how well everyone played.  We made a few mistakes here and there, but overall everyone played great squash against a strong and deep Loomis squad.  Our win came courtesy of Zach Li ‘27 at #6, who won 3-0 in 3 nail-biter games (11-9, 13-11, 12-10).  He continued to display the consistent, level-headed game that has brought him success all season, moving his opponent around the court with precision.  After losing the first two games, Rafa Rodrigues ‘28 won the 3rd at the #7 spot, and for much of game 4 was neck-and-neck with his opponent — before ultimately falling 10-12.  At all other scored positions the Marlets lost in 3 games, but fought hard throughout and didn’t waver in the face of adversity.  Elijah Woodard ‘29 also deserves a shout-out for strong play in his exhibition match at #9, displaying solid and smart play in his 3-0 match, patiently moving his opponent around the back court with deep shots, and taking advantage of points when given the opportunity.  The team looks forward to its final match of the season, on the road next Wednesday at Taft.

Grit & Grace Award:  Zach Li ‘27, once again, deserves the award today, not only for bringing home our one win, but also for his patient, consistent, and unwavering play against a strong opponent.  The highlight was his 15-13 victory in game 2 after a see-sawing game, which ultimately propelled him to a clean-sweep win.
