Martlets Sweep Pride
The Westminster JV squash boys showed that a long bus ride is no impediment to solid play on the court. When the matches were over, the Martlets had a clean sweep against the TP Lions, including exhibition wins by Rafa Rodrigues ‘28 at both the #8 and #9 positions. Sam Jiang ‘28 won a hard-fought 4-game match against an unconventional opponent at the #2 position, while all other victories came in 3 straight games. All players did a fantastic job of noticing their opponents’ weaknesses and coaching one another at the game breaks. Andrew Ma ‘27 even took a racquet swing to the face and bounced back to win 3 decisive games. Zach Li ‘27 and Tyson Mertz ‘28 deserve particular credit for only giving up 4 points over each of their respective matches. The companion 6-1 win by the varsity squad made for a great overall trip, and a nice way to start the weekend.
Grit & Grace Award: After dropping the first game, Sam Jiang ‘28 bounced back to win the next 3, despite a very athletic opponent and a loud spectator gallery). He kept his focus and stuck to the fundamentals, showing that consistent ball control and a disciplined game will land you ahead nearly all that time!
