Martlets Fall at Home

It was a tough day at the Kohn Squash Pavilion for the Martlets, as the JV squash boys lost in a clean sweep against a very talented and deep team from Deerfield.  Although all 7 matches ended in a 0-3 score for Westminster, there were several highlights.  Alessio Suarez ‘28 did a great job both figuring out how to pull his opponent into the back court, and how to defend against some of his opponent’s strongest shots.  Similarly, Rafa Rodrigues ‘28 identified some weaknesses in his opponent early on, and made adjustments throughout the match to try to take as much advantage of those as possible.  All 7 guys stuck it out until the end, playing their strongest games against formidable opponents.  Ultimately, the Deerfield squad just dominated at the T, with a beautiful front court game and tight, deep rails.  The Martlets look forward to working on some of these skills in practice, before we head to Avon Old Farms on Monday.

Grit & Grace Award:  Alessio Suarez ‘28 takes the award today, with steady improvement over the course of his 3 games.  After 3-11 and 6-11 losses in the first two games, Alessio kept his cool and played with discipline, forcing his opponent to barely eke out a 10-12 victory in the third.
