Martlets Defeat Rhinos

1/21/26
Third Boys Hockey: Desjardins & Delva
Westminster 10 - Taft 4

The Third Boys were eager to get back to game play following the cancellation of last Saturday’s scheduled contest with Salisbury—winter in New England! Westminster welcomed Taft to Jackson Rink to renew what has become one of the better match-ups over the past few seasons. Accordingly, both teams provided fans with back-and-forth, closely-contested hockey for most of the game. The Rhinos opened the scoring just 49 seconds after puck drop. As it turns out, the only goal of the first period, despite Westminster generating numerous scoring opportunities. As the second period got underway, it didn’t take very long for the Martlets to tie the game on a shot from the point by Mason Moritz ‘28, and secure their first lead with a scrum-like goal in the crease by Luke Champoux ‘28. From there, the teams traded goals for the remainder of the period. Adam and Eli Heffer ‘29 each took turns scoring with their linemate Teddy Russell ‘26 assisting on both goals. Will Gallagher ‘27 completed the second period scoring with an unassisted goal at 14:25. Westminster was finally able to take control of the game in the third period, scoring once on the PK and once on the PP. The Rhinos got one more by the Martlet netminders, but Westminster pulled away for good with three straight goals down the stretch. In the end, the game was closer than the final score indicated, as both competed hard for the full 45 minutes.
