Martlets Fall to Knights on Road

The Martlets hit the road and headed west on Route 44 for a Saturday afternoon matinee showdown with Salisbury in what turned into a fast-paced, high-octane prep hockey thriller. Westminster came out absolutely buzzing and had the Crimson Knights on their heels for the opening 18 minutes, playing sharp, disciplined, and relentless hockey.
The black and gold wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard, racing out to a 3–0 lead in the first period. Timmy Donohue ’26 opened the scoring and set the tone, Massimo Guarnieri ’26 followed with a strong finish, and Owen Burke ’26 capped the period with a power-play laser off a terrific feed from Donohue to put the Martlets firmly in control.
Salisbury pushed back hard in the second, striking three times—two on the power play—to claw their way back and tie the game at 3–3. But Westminster refused to blink. Just before the horn, Donohue buried his second of the afternoon to swing the momentum back and give the Martlets a 4–3 lead heading into the third.
The final frame was an exciting period of prep hockey. Salisbury found the equalizer early and then grabbed the lead minutes later. But once again, the Martlets showed their grit and resolve, continuing to compete shift by shift until Owen Burke ’26 ripped home his second of the game to even things up at 5–5 and set up a thrilling finish.
In the closing minutes, Salisbury capitalized on a bounce to take a 6–5 lead. Westminster threw everything they had at the net with the goalie pulled, but couldn’t find the tying goal before Salisbury sealed it with an empty-netter.
