Martlets Place 18th

In the final race of the year, the Westminster boys’ cross-country team competed in the NEPSTA Division II Championship 5k this past Saturday. The varsity team finished in eighteenth place overall in the largest meet we have been in all year. Westminster was led by Nick Lopriore (’26) who finished as the top overall Martlet despite rushing to complete the SAT just hours before. Also scoring for Westminster in order were Michael Wang (’27), Charlie Zhang (’29), Aidan O’Callaghan (’26), and Will Larock (’26). The varsity group definitely did not execute where they wanted to perform as a couple of seconds total separated the team from moving up five spots in the rankings. Fortunately, that does not put a damper on a season that showed a lot of improvement overall in our program, as they gave it their all.
The junior varsity race conversely finished an impressive eighth overall in their field, despite being down one of their top runners, Jason Seo (’29). The group was willed to a strong performance by brothers Eli (’29) and Adam Heffer (’29), who combined with Elijah Woodard (’29) to form a strong 1-2-3 punch that bodes well for the future. Rounding out the scoring spots were Bryant Hong (’29) and Jason Xie (’28).

This week’s Grit & Grace Award goes to both Jeff Shao (’26) and Niraj Prakash (’26) who uncorked blazing starts to motivate the group to a strong team result.
